About Villa St Remy

Built in the 1930’s, St. Remy house, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, is situated on a 27-acre cocoa and citrus plantation, offers stunning panoramic views of the famed Pitons and the Caribbean Sea.

The present owner, Mrs. Joan Devaux, eldest daughter of Marie and Andre du Boulay, acquired St. Remy Plantation in 1975 when her father could no longer manage all his outlying properties.

In this photo, Mrs. Joan Devaux is seen bending over behind her younger sisters, Therese and Marguerite.  Standing on the steps of the home is their nanny, affectionately known as dear old “Da” or nurse “Ma Peter”.

"The original 2-storey house was built by my aunts Helen Marie du Boulay and Berthe du Boulay Devaux.  When they became too old to live by themselves my father bought the property and built a house for them closer to Soufriere Estate where they could be looked after and cared for."

"My parents used St. Remy as a summer retreat during the months of August and September.  After the first year, my mother began to complain that the house was too large and that walking up and down the stairs was too tiring, so my father like all good husbands should, cut off the top floor of the house to please her. As you can see in the photo there is no top floor."
